Fashion designer Ying Gao created the dresses that can writhe around and light up when they sense someone staring at them, Dezeen.com said. This high-tech dress could be quite a treat for the eyes, lighting up and showing patterns once someone gazes at it.
"We use an eye-tracking system so the dresses move when a spectator is staring. (The system) can also turn off the lights, then the dresses illuminate,"Ying Gao said.
Dubbed "(No)where (Now)here: Two Gaze-activated Dresses," the project will be exhibited at the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art in November. It will then be shown at the Textile Museum of Canada in spring 2014.
Embedded in the dresses is an eye-tracking technology that activates tiny motors to move parts of the dresses, once it senses someone gazing at the dress. One of the dresses is covered in tendrils of photo-luminescent thread that dangle from ruched fabric. The other has glow-in-the-dark threads that form a base layer, with fabric cut into ribbons loosely bunched over the top."With the lights off they create an effect similar to glowing sea creatures," Dezeen.com said.
On the other hand, Ying Gao has also designed dresses that curl and unfurl in reaction to light, along with garments that move as if they are breathing
